Off the riverwalk in Chicago, in May 2009. I find this to be a compelling shot, but the reason for that remains elusive to me. It seemed as if this buoy or moor, in a long line of ones standing perfectly, was just hanging on by sheer force of will.

This image has both Mystery and Contradiction, I think. The angle of the mooring makes it looks like it’s not firmly attached to the bottom of the river anymore, which means there’s a mystery as to why it’s still there. The contradiction is the contrast between the bright strong outside of the moor and the rotting, old beams that make it up. There may even be ambiguity there as well, but I’m not seeing it clearly right now. If definitely fits at least two of our elements of a good image. :)
I like the lighting, particularly in the shades of yellow on the sides of the moor. It’s a little dark inside, and the browns could come out a little more, but that’s a nitpick.
