He'd be better off in front of a nearly black background, like what we can see over his right shoulder, rather than the muddle over his left shoulder. You did a good job contrasting him from the background and his shirt; however, the couch/blanket behind his right shoulder is distracting. The southwestern texture is strange and sort of melds into his shirt and hair. I would try to darken this area a little to make him stand out more. As you and I just spoke about, this photo would have benefited from a larger aperture/shorter DOF to make him stand out even more. I love how clear his skin is.
