A “surprise” portrait of a dear friend who I’ve known since first grade. This photo captured her personality. The focus is a little off, especially in her eye. I’m going to work on street and people photography more — I realized I need to work on it after Ted was clearly more successful in our photography shoot two weekends ago with a local mother and daughter.

Agreed that focus is a touch off, but you captured a great expression. I’ve seen reference to Canon AF being fast but sometimes a bit off, which may have been the case here. I like the framing of the shot with her right side cut off. Normally that’s a bit risky, but it works well here.
You might try to bring out a little more color in this shot. Her face and hair feel a bit muddled. That could just be the light you had, but it might be improvable.

I need to show you the original shot and see what you can do with the colors. I think my edits darkened her hair, but overall the photo was a bit grey originally. I want to see what you can come up with! :)
